To Be A Product Manager | Day 60
This journal helps me improve 1% every day…

Welcome to Day 60 of
To Be A Product Manager
Friday I don’t have much work need to be done, trying to finish the data document and come to an agreement on potential VR livestream opportunities and website design.
In the morning I got some feedback from my mentor, and started making some changes to the data document. Then jumped into the livestream industry discussion. My mentor did a great job analyzing the current market size, technology and possibilities with some great examples and data supported. And the product team encouraged me to do livestream, in order to understand the business from both sides as host and watcher.
After this long discussion, I tried to finish the data document for H5 player. So I organized a small group chat with engineers and operations team, then reach to agreement on data collection with the current beta version.
Then I also organized another meeting with our CEO and product/design team to confirm our web design. The website discussion caught people’s desire, and we also discussed our brand name and finally after almost 6 months, we decided our brand name.
Goals
- H5 player data feature document
- Livestream discussion
- Website discussion
Challenges
The only problem I met today is data deduplication. When you design a data collecting system, you need to go through all the possible scenarios that could happen during the usage.
And my original plan doesn’t put that into consideration at all. If an user watches 3 videos, that should be 1 UV for each videos, but for the whole system, it should just 1 UV.
This is not something complicated, but you need to create one of your own to find it and experience it.
My name is Zake Zhang, a newbie VR product manager based in Shenzhen, China. I’m thinking what if I write daily product journal for 1,000 days?
Thanks for reading and let’s keep on hacking!
Warm Regards,
Zake
be so good they can’t ignore you.
